Winemaking
Hand harvested grapes.
A mixture of French and American oak barrels were used. The American oak from Roberts & Sons, a small, family-run artisan cooperage, provides a creamy texture to the wine which supports the wine's naturally soft, round tannins. The French oak barrels, both medium and tight grain, are from a mix of coopers and forests, and provide structural elements and aromatic complexity. The percentage of new wood was 50% and the aging period was 17 months. The Petit Verdot was of excellent quality in 2004, hence a greater percentage (25%) of the blend.
Bottled unfiltered on April 20, 2006.

Production
926 cases of 750 ml.

Tasting Notes
The ideal growing season of 2004 produced a lushly textured Cabernet exhibiting the same approachable style of previous releases, but with greater ripeness and richness. Blended with 25% Petit Verdot, the resulting wine displays a deep, garnet hue. The nose offers sweet toasty aromas, black fruits and cassis liqueur. The mouth is deep, rich and round with flavors complementing the bouquet.

The 2004 RHR Cabernet Sauvignon won a Gold medal in the 2007 Orange County Fair Commercial Wine Competition and a Silver medal in the 2007 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
